Making money on-line is simple. However it is not easy. It isn’t complicated but it does take work and this is where too many people fail: they are not prepared to do the work. So how do you make money online?

Before getting into the technical aspects of creating a website it is important to map out a strategy, to have a plan that you can follow to the letter. If you don’t take the time to plan your on-line venture as you would any other business you will fail!

It is imperative to begin with an end in mind – what do you want to achieve? You should write this down and it should be both a monetary goal and a progress goal. How much do you want to earn and how many pages/websites/offers do you want to promote. Once you have done this it is time to think about how you will go about achieving these goals – breaking things down into manageable tasks is a good strategy.

For example – my goal is to earn $100 a week from a weight loss site selling affiliate products. To go from nothing – no money, no website and no knowledge to $100 a week is a huge leap. In fact this first step is the biggest you will ever take on-line!

The initial steps

1. Choose a topic, or niche, for your website/blog and identify 20 keywords, or keyword phrases

2. Choose one keyword for your domain name.

3. Write one (approx) 500 word article using each of your keyword (phrases) as the title.

4. Use the keyword (phrase) at least once in the first and last paragraphs of the article.

5. Create free blog at Blogger.com or WordPress.com

6. Monetize blog with Google Adsense and affiliate programs from Clickbank or Commission Junction.

7. Post one article to your blog everyday for two weeks.

8. Optimize posts for search engines using tags and keywords.

9. Bookmark your posts on Digg, Reddit, and with Onlywire

10. Take the remaining five articles and submit them to EzineArticles, GoArticles and WarpArticles with anchor text pointing back to your blog.

11. Bookmark your articles as per step 9.

12. Create a squidoo lens for each of your keywords (phrases) and point it back to your blog

13. Create some short simple videos with content based on your keywords and post to Youtube and other video sharing sites.

14. Register at YahooAnswers and answer questions on your chosen niche – provide good quality information and leave a link back to your website.

15. Find some forums related to your niche, sign up and start contributing high-quality information to the forum. You will be able to create a ‘signature’ that will automatically link back to your blog every time you leave a comment.

This is hardly new or revolutionary material, in fact you will find this in almost any internet marketing forum or blog.  The reason for this is – it works!  It is hard work and it does take time.  this is where you ‘pay your dues’ to get started.  Once you have some income you can begin to outsource certain tasks which will free up your time to do more ‘marketing’.
