Increase Conversions By Hyper-Linking Images

This is a strategy that I am amazed to see experienced marketers miss out on! It is so simple, yet very effective.

Basically it involves linking all your images to offers or product pages – whatever you happen to be promoting. So if you have a picture of an iPod on an affiliate page hyperlink it with your affiliate link.

You see people love pictures and they love to click stuff – so give big, colourful images to click that take them to the buy page.

Hyperlinking images in WordPress is really simple – you can do it when you first upload the image by placing your affiliate link in the URL box (highlighted yellow below).

If you want to add links to images in pre-existing posts you will need to edit the HTML code.

HTML code for an image will look something like this;

<img src="http://example.com/folder/image.jpg" alt="cheap plasma televisions" height="50" width="100" />

The img src refers to where the image is currently hosted, alt is the keyword text and height and width refer to the dimensions. Now don’t worry if your code doesn’t look exactly like this – it might have captions, it might not have the image dimensions – as long as your image is displaying it is fine.

Now, to hyperlink it simply add this text to the front of the existing code ;

<a href="http://your-link.com">

So now you should have;

<a href="http://your-link.com"><img src="http://example.com/folder/image.jpg" alt="cheap plasma televisions" height="50" width="100" />

Finally you need to make a little change to end of the code;

height="50" width="100" />

Change to;

height="50" width="100"> </a>

and you should now be able to click on the image and be taken to your affiliate page.

Additional Traffic from Google Images

If you want to increase your traffic here’s a tip for you – leverage Google Images.

Now this is not going to bring you floods of traffic, but it will bring you some and remember – small changes make big differences.

First you need to make sure that you use ALT tags on your images.

When you upload an image to wordpress you have the option of filling in some info in the upload box. The ALT tag can be completed by filling in the ‘Alternate Text’ box – see below.

The ALT tags allow search engine spiders to ‘read’ images. Your ALT tags should be the keyword that you want to rank for, this is another way of letting Google know what your page is about.

The ALT tags are also used by Google Images to return searches on images. As the software that search engines use to index web pages is not currently sophisticated enough to determine the meaning of an image they rely on the ALT tags so if someone searches for an image of ’40″ Sony Plasma TV’ and you have an image with same or similar ALT tags then that image from your site will be dispayed in the results.

When you click on an image in the Google Images search results it will initially display the site within an ‘iframe’. An iframe is just that – a frame in which one website can dispay some, or all, of a page from another site.

Using this wordpress plugin it is possible to break the frame and for the visitor to land directly on your site – voila you have additional traffic.

look out for more tips like this – think about it like this; if this gives you an extra 10 visitors a month and you can implement 10 of these quick and easy tweaks that’s 100 extra visits a month – if you have only a 1% conversion it’s still an extra sale a month.

How To make A Header Clickable

Have you ever visited a website that has a clickable header image? Cool isn’t it? It’s actually quite easy to do.

If you’re not sure what I mean by ‘clickable header image’, allow me to explain.

A clickable header image is simply the header of a website that when clicked takes you back to the home page.

Now, most websites do not have clickable header images and this is a mistake in my opinion.  A clickable header image can mean that your site doesn’t need a text link back to the home page. So what? Well, maybe ‘so nothing’, on the other hand, maybe ‘something’.

In order to guide your visitor in the direction that you want them to take it is important to eliminate all distractions and ‘leakages’. The fewer ‘exit points’ you have on a page, the higher the chance of your visitor completing the required action – clicking Adsense, clicking an affiliate link, or whatever – that gets you paid.

It can also make your site look ‘cleaner’ and is probably the intuitive way to get back to the home page.  Besides it’s cool becaus not many webmasters have them and if your header isn’t clickable what use is it? – other than from a design point of view – none!

How to Make A Clickable Header Image
So how do you make that header clickable?  You need to insert some HTML code somewhere. If you are using WordPress, particularly with a paid theme it may be more complicated than this, but this will work for most websites.

First off go to Appearance/Editor and find your header.php page and have a look for this code:

Replace the above code with this:

<xmp><div id=”header” onclick=location.href=’http://YOUR-WEBSITE’;”style=”cursor:pointer;”></xmp>

*Obviously replace YOUR-WEBSITE with the actual URL of your site

For those whose blogs use the HTML tag it is a little different.

Find the code that looks like this;

and replace it with the code below;

<xmp><a href=”<?php bloginfo(‘url’); ?>”><img src=”headerimage”></a></xmp>

**Please remember to copy the original code and save it somewhere just in case something goes wrong and you need to undo any changes.

How to Choose a Niche and the Right Keywords – 2

Yesterday we discussed choosing a niche and I showed you a really quick and simple way to get started with a niche and product in just a few clicks using Amazon’s website. Today I’m going to consider another of the internet marketing basics – keyword research – and the limitations of relying exclusively on software to select keywords.

Keyword Research

There are a lot of good tools out there for analysing keyword search volume and competition, as well as approximate value, degree of commercial intent and adwords cost-per-click. We can extract a lot of information and it is undoubtedly helpful in planning a campaign, however niche and keyword selection is as much an art as a science and cannot be left entirely to software.

Filtering Results

For example, we can filter results to show only those keywords with a minimum number of searches per day, or with a set amount of competing sites, or with a certain percentage of online commercial intent and so on. There are many different indices by which we can sort and filter data using tools like Google Adwords Tool, SEnuke, Market Samurai, Micro Niche Finder, Traffic Travis, etc. But these filters do not always shine a light into the dark cracks where it is possible to find easy profits.

Are You Filtering OUT The Gold?

Would you bother targeting a keyword that only has two or three searches a day? Most software would filter out such a low volume keyword, but what if you were selling a product that gave commissions of $100? A conversion rate of 1% on 100 visits a month would give you $100 a month commission just from that one single phrase.

Competition Isn’t Just About Numbers

When it comes to competition for a keyword it is important to look past just the sheer number of competing sites that feature the keyword in their pages and meta-tags. In WWII the Italian airforce had thousands of planes neatly parked on hundreds of airstrips and to any passing observer would appear a powerful enemy, however the truth is that 90% of those planes did not contain an engine or fuel and were thus unable to fly!

Similarly, the number of competing sites is fairly irrelevant when it comes to your chances of ranking for a particular keyword. There may be 500,000 results thrown up by Google but if none of these sites are well optimized then it will be relatively easy for you to crack the top ten, conversely, results of only 2000 may seem like the proverbial “wet dream” but if all of these sites are well-structured, with great content and thousands of links you have an uphill task on your hands.

As far as OCI is concerned a lot of this is common-sense. A person searching for “keyword research” is probably looking for some free informationcto educate themselves, whilst “keyword researcher” would suggest that person is looking for an actual thing – software, or person – that will do the keyword research. Which is the buying term? Which has the higher chance of making a sale?

It will take a lot more than a single blog post to understand how to select and research a niche so that you know before creating your site that you will be successful. Doing this by trial and error is time-consuming and expensive, but luckily there are plenty of marketers willing to teach us their successful methods. How to Choose a Niche

A lot of people get stuck on the internet marketing basics like how to choose a niche, and think that they need a lot of tools and spend a lot of time getting it right.

Don’t waste your time!

Look around the room that you are in and you can find plenty of niches – furniture, office furniture, garden furniture, stationary, electronics, luggage, carpets, art, ornaments, communication services, gardening equipment, pets, cleaning products, kitchen products. Within those categories there are thousands of items that people buy online every single day.

Sell What’s selling

Now that you have a bunch of categories go to Amazon and search those categories, sorting the results by “bestselling”. Now browse through the first few pages and note the products that have the most reviews. These are bestselling products that people buy online and like so much that they actually take the time to write a review of them!  Twenty years ago getting this kind of info was time-consuming and expensive, now it is just a few clicks away.

Choose ten products that have a lot of good reviews – sometimes you will find that certain products have hundreds and even thousands of reviews – and start researching keywords.

Time Management is a vital skill for internet marketers

If you want to be a successful internet marketer you need to ensure that you are mentally prepared! It is vital that you organise your time so as to get the maximum productivity available.

Internet marketing is not about

• writing great content
• designing websites
• creating gorgeous headers

If you want to do these things then you are a writer, a web designer, or a graphic artist.

Yes you will have to do some writing – blog posts (like this one) emails, descriptions, etc, but if you are writing your own articles you should consider the amount of time that it is taking you and whether your time could be more profitably spent doing other tasks.

For example, a really good quality article could cost you $10 (this is actually a little on the high side), but how long would it take you to write it? Let’s be generous, assume you are a good writer and say, 30 minutes. So in an hour you can produce two good articles.

If you paid someone else to do this it would cost you $20. Now the question is, in an hour could you earn more than $20 doing another task? The answer: probably.

Similarly with web design and graphic design – if you are spending time on these things then you are taking away time that you should be using to promote your site. If you have an office do you make your own furniture? Do taxi-drivers make their cars? NO!

Lesson 1 – outsource as much as possible.

Once you have got to the stage where you can outsource the labor-intensive tasksyou will have a lot more time to spend marketing and promoting your sites. Again this needs to be approached in a logical way.

Parkinson’s Law states that the amount of time a task takes is proprtional to the amount of time allocated to it. For example if a job only takes 15 minutes at full tilt, but you allocate 30 minutes to it, you will never be finished in 15 minutes! You may finish slightly before the 30 minute mark but you will never be near 15 minutes.

Lesson 2 – set strict, achievable time limits for every task.

If you can set time limits for each task you will be much more productive. Now before you can set time limits you need to know which tasks you need to complete, so it is necessary to make a plan for each period that you will be working. List the tasks, set time limits and off you go.

Lesson 3 – make a plan of what you will achieve each time you sit down to work.

If you follow these three simple lessons then I promise you that you will be much more productive than previously.
